Being a Pharisee is easy

So another story that got me thinking was in Matthew 15 as well.  It's verses 1-20

So basically here's the story

A bunch of religious leaders come to Jesus and ask him why his disciples break the tradition of their elders by not washing their hands before they eat.

He goes off on them about how they've broken God's commandments in favor of tradition.

(this is just a p.s.  I've yet to read a story involving Jesus and the Pharisees in which Jesus doesn't offend them greatly, interesting isnt' it?)

Then basically he goes on to say that it isn't what goes into your mouth that makes you impure but rather what comes out of your mouth.  And since the mouth overflows from the abundance of your heart he's actually talking about what's in our hearts.

And often what's in our hearts is the hardest thing to conquer and deal with.  It's really easy to ritualize the stuff on the outside.  To keep it in order so that we follow "tradition"

Don't drink
Don't smoke
Don't sleep around
Don't speed
Don't beat my children

Check check and check.  See I'm all good....

So see, we are all pharisees in need of the reminder that it's not what we do on the outside that others can see that is of the utmost importance.  But rather the state of our heart which only God can see.

I need to find more funny stuff in my life to write about dont' I.

Gaurding our hearts nd the words that come out of our mouths is one of the greatest challenges that I think so many of us if not all battle all the time!
