"He gives to all life, breath, and all things...their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us" (Acts 17:25-27)
So I thanked Jesus for His nearness to me and then asked Him to reveal through the common and natural things just how close He was to me.
As I walked a few steps (I usually pace the isles when I am praying - it helps me stay focused!) I was prompted to take a deep breath, and then another.
As I continued to take deep breathes every few steps I was suddenly was reminded that He is always as close to me as the very breath in my lungs, the wind swirling around my head and the very substance of creation. Not that God is reduced to a piece of matter or substance, but that His creation is the revelation of His Divine Nature, just as Paul was declaring in Acts 17.
Soon I was reminded of Elihu's declaration in the book of Job:
"If it were His intention and He withdrew His spirit and breath,
all mankind would perish together and man would return to the dust"
My very breath, the thing that I rely upon on a moment by moment basis is supplied through the graciousness of the Giver of All Life, who if He held His breath would cause ALL things to return to dust!
What an incredible gift; that in the midst of a dull heart, a dark night or the tribulations of growing into my intended end that all I have to do is take a breath and I am intimately near to the uncreated unchanging God!
It is not only the breath of life, it is the very breath of Life Himself.
Breath deep! Worship deeply!!
