What do you smell like?

A few weeks ago we were studying Song of Solomon in the bible (it's a book of the bible) And there is alot of visual imagery in it. About how things look and smell specifically. One of the comments that caught my attention was this...

"Our thoughts are the scent of our inner life"

I'm not sure which verse this comment was inspired by but it really got my wheels turning.

That being the whole concept of "frangrance" or "scent".

For example why is it that people with bad breath or body odour can't notice it themselves. You'd think because they were closest to it they'd be the first to notice.

I put on a body mist everyday (Bath and Bodyworks if you must know) I love the smell but after I spray it on I'm fairly oblivious to it. Can't smell it at all. I'm only reminded of it once Jon tells me I smell nice.

So the principle would be that we as humans are somehow unable to smell our own smells. Both good and bad. Probably because we get used to them and they become part of our "normal"

But what about the belief that "dogs can smell your fear"

Fear is an emotion, not a scent on our skin. But I would really attest to this as I don't like larger dogs and they always seem to pick up on this even though I go thru my mantra in my head "I'm not afraid of you". And if they truly do have a very strong sense of smell quite possibly they can smell our fear.

So this concept has just left me wondering...

What exactly is my inner life like?

What is it those around me smell?

I could totally stink and I'd be the last one to know.
